You are about to become part of an ongoing story that is mostly being told 'behind the scenes,' in lives that are dedicated to letting God have his loving way with us frail and fractious humans. Jesus has quietly befriended each of us (John 15:15) and changed our mindset about this life. That is, his endlessly kind Spirit has taken over our hearts and refocused our lives on His desire to heal the hurting in this all too often uncaring and even downright hateful-violent world.
And so, we routinely call on God to restore the destitute and despairing...to lift up the put down and the set aside...to embolden those who have been startled into silence and terrified into submission. We are praying His Spirit of Love will infuse everyone - even the users and abusers - with Jesus’ compassion for others…and move us to do our part for our neighbors in need…and one day turn all of us into humane humans again!
Following His lead, we find we are ‘having the time of our life’ as we bring to our friends, family and many others the kind of forever-faithful God support we all need. As we like to tell it, giving our life away to help the hurting has taken on a whole new set of meanings and purposes and added blessings that are, as it turns out, carrying us through our own hard times! By praying this way, we have seen for ourselves how He is always working to restore us to living with joy and generosity...whatever comes our way and however challenged we may be by the harsh realities of life in this "present evil age." (Paul, Galatians 1:4)
We have been taken over by a can’t-ignore-it certainty that He will get what he wants ‘in the end.’ He wants to overhaul our present world and re-generate a "new heavens and earth" ...where we will get to be endlessly creative partners with our loving Father God...and to live in respectful peace with each other...in an ever expanding, joy-filled-forever universe. (Rev 21:4)
Therefore, we see everything in the current "age of unreason" from a very liberating ‘long view’ that turns every new situation into an opportunity to pray. Following Jesus' lead, we expect to pray-into the lives of our fellow humans the healing and transforming touch of his Spirit of Love. (1 John 4:16)
We recognize that He wants them to see for themselves what 'the age to come' will be like. And so, we ask the Spirit to help them find their way into an unusual place for these times – a neighborhood gathering of mutual care, where they can rediscover their truly human selves, their generously kind selves.
And then...the Spirit will prompt them – our friends and family and neighbors – to pray for their loved ones and many others He 'just happens' to bring across their path. All over the world, He will be drawing us into local fellowships of 'prayer partners', who will, quietly and persistently, call on our Father God's wildly prodigal love to heal and transform everyone we know. In time we will become "a people" who are wholly focused on becoming ‘one’…one very healthy and harmonious-living “family of God,” Spirit-readied to bless and serve in any way we can...most especially, prayer.
Each group will be 'just regular people' who are God motivated to pray on a moment's notice. And we will know that our boldness in prayer has nothing to do with our ability or foresight. Like Jesus, we will be very sure that our Father-Creator has already prepared everyone present for what He is about to do. In John 11:41-44, Jesus 'assumed' – after extensive prayer-conversation with His Father – that He had the situation well in hand and that He was more than ready to do something never seen before: resurrect a dead and well decayed body!
Whether we are calling on God’s compassionate and gracious help silently or out loud, alone or in a group, we will all eventually become fearlessly confident in two things: His personal presence already there at our side and His endless desire to come to our aid and answer our prayers. And our part, our 'job' as we pray, will always be
Best of all, we will ‘just know’ that we can let the Spirit do the praying with us and in us, and through us. Why? Because, in time, we will become well aware of the persistent presence of our (everybody's!) ultimate Prayer Partner, the Spirit of Jesus. (Acts 16.7) According to Jesus, the "One who comes alongside to help' not only walks with us but now lives in us. (John 14:16-18) And He is for us without reservation and will, without hesitation, fulfill in us all that Jesus promised. (John 15.1-5) For a fact, we are not alone or helpless in our praying...ever!
He has persuaded us here – by directly connecting with each of us and by the practical, ‘everyday’ help he has given us in our struggling to pray often and well – that He will never give up on us or our friends or our family or our coworkers or even those new acquaintances or far away peoples he lays on our heart from across the world. Thank you, loving Father! Thank you, Jesus!! Thank you, Spirit of Love!!!
As you engage with these possibly new and different ideas and suggested practices, we pray the Holy Spirit will ‘consciously’ (such that you know it’s Him!) come alongside you and unveil even more ways of experiencing prayer that are even more effective than what we have told you about so far. I am also convinced that his Spirit will show all of us how he wants each of us to participate in his 'new world coming' movement.
But...how?
Jesus never expected us to stand alone nor to become humanely human again on our own.
He wants us surrounded by an 'enclave of love,'
those who share his "love one another" vision
for our life together. He knows that 'acting as one' we are an unstoppable force for good
in this all too often fractious and hateful world.
For sure, our praying together recreates (many
times, instantaneously!) the harmony, peace,
joy, and love experience we humans knew 'in
the beginning.' And...it moves our truly human, compassion-first hearts to keep on praying
everyone we know into the beauty, blessing
and wellbeing of God's loving presence.
Jesus wants to heal/transform our world through ordinary people like us! And so,
he is drawing us together in our neighborhoods and villages to learn how to pray His loving Presence into even the most overwhelmingly difficult and dangerous times we encounter.

Many years ago, I was unsettled (to say the least!) when Jesus' Spirit almost immediately took us 'barely beginners' into praying for the impossible and receiving truly awe-inspiring answers: cancers 'mysteriously' in remission, profoundly estranged families restored, headaches that vanished, the heart broken healed, spirit burdens lifte
Many years ago, I was unsettled (to say the least!) when Jesus' Spirit almost immediately took us 'barely beginners' into praying for the impossible and receiving truly awe-inspiring answers: cancers 'mysteriously' in remission, profoundly estranged families restored, headaches that vanished, the heart broken healed, spirit burdens lifted never to return, lifelong addictions gone...and so much more.
But...why us?
Why was He doing all this for us? Most especially, why through a bunch of fresh recruits who truly did not know what they were doing? Why prompt us to take chances in prayer that were most definitely 'outside our comfort zone'...how does that work...for Him?
As I watched our loving Father-Creator transform many lives through our oh so feeble prayers, I had to ask Him, "Is being incompetent in prayer a prerequisite for effective prayer?" Fast forward to today and I can now affirm from his perspective, both far above it all and right here with us in all the messiness of life in this world, that the answer is "Yes!"
So...
What if we were to lean on Him who is with us and in us, Jesus' Spirit of Wisdom, Love and Power, to take us into being World Changing Pray-ers? That's the rest of the story you will find in the blogposts and pages that follow.
